Now we know that we're all on the same wavelength, we can really get started and produce the Beta Version.

This is a working model of the database - about 80% of the way there. You will now get the chance to start testing it out and checking that it matches up with the specification (see, you really do need a spec!).

In certain situations, you might even "parallel run" the Beta with your existing systems to check it's doing the job as expected.

All of this testing is part of "User Acceptance" - your chance to satisfy yourselves that all is well, before you sign off the system to go live.
